How to book

Where do you buy Vatican Museums tickets online?

The only official online shop is tickets.museivaticani.va. The €25 ticket includes the chapel and booking fee. The Museums warn about sites with similar addresses that charge more.

Choose Museums and Vatican Collections in the shop, then select a date. Next come the time and ticket type. A reduced ticket needs supporting documents; without entitlement, it is cancelled and you must buy a full ticket.

At the door

Can you buy Vatican Museums tickets at the door?

Yes, you can buy a €20 ticket at the Museums entrance on Viale Vaticano. It includes the Sistine Chapel. You save the €5 booking fee and join the ticket queue.

Last entry is 18:00 from Monday to Saturday. Your wait in the ticket queue comes before admission. Your time in the galleries also ends 30 minutes before closing.

Booked entry

What does the official Skip the Line entry mean?

The official Skip the Line entry lets you bypass the ticket queue. The €25 total includes the €5 booking fee. Entry is booked for a set time, and security checks still apply.

A reseller may add a host or a live guide. Some options include an audio app instead. The extra cost pays for those services; official booked entry alone costs €25.

Most Sundays are closed. The last Sunday is usually free, with the next on 29 November. Opening hours are 9:00 to 14:00, and you must enter before 12:30.

Free Sunday opening does not apply on Easter Sunday or 29 June. It also excludes 25, 26 and 31 December. Your free Museums visit includes the Sistine Chapel.

Other closures include 1 and 6 January, 11 February and 19 March. The Museums also close on Easter Monday, 1 May and 29 June. Later dates are 14 and 15 August and 1 November. December closures fall on 8, 25 and 26 December.

On 10 November all sectors open at 9:00. On 4 December and 18 December the Sistine Chapel closes at 18:00, with last entry at 17:30.

What to do: If cost comes first, use the free Sunday and arrive before 12:30. A paid weekday gives you longer opening hours if the shorter day would limit your visit.
